EARLY HEAD START

FOR FAMILIES

Early Head Start (EHS), serving children up to the age of three, provides early comprehensive child development and support services to low-income infants and toddlers and their families.


The Coalition is an Early Head Start (EHS) grantee, serving 270 children from six weeks to three years of age in the most needed areas of the county. Service areas include the cities of Belle Glade, Delray Beach, Lake Worth, Pahokee, Riviera Beach, South Bay and West Palm Beach.

  • How do I apply for EHS? How soon can I apply?

    Applications are accepted year-round on a rolling basis; we maintain an ongoing waitlist. You can apply on the ELC website on the EHS Application Link to start your application process.

  • What documents are necessary for application?

    • Proof of Age of Child
    • Proof of Address
    • Verification of Income
    • Medical Insurance Card
    • Child’s Immunization Record
    • Individualized Education Plan (IEP)/Individualized Family Services Plan (IFSP) if applicable
    • Court orders or custody orders (if applicable)

  • Do I have to live in the service areas of EHS Providers?

    Families should apply if interested and a staff member will follow up to conduct an interview and discuss opportunities.

  • How much of the cost of child care is covered with EHS?

    This program is offered at no-cost to qualifying low-income families

  • What is included in the funding?

    Using EHS-CCP funds, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services awards competitive grants to Early Head Start grantees that partner with local child care providers—both center-based and in-home providers—that serve children from low-income families receiving child care subsidies and agree to meet Head Start Program Performance Standards (HSPPS). Early Head Start grantees help their child care partners to meet these standards and provide comprehensive wrap-around services, such as developmental screenings, formula and diapers, to meet children’s health, nutrition and other comprehensive development needs.
