CHILD DEVELOPMENT

Assessing your child’s development and monitoring their milestones is critical for ensuring children are school ready! Developmental screenings can help parents identify areas where children shine and areas that may require additional attention.

ELCPBC's Developmental Screening Team supports providers in administering the age-appropriate developmental screenings (ASQ-3 and ASQ-SE 2) for each child through our contracted child care providers twice a year. Providers are then responsible for communicating to parents/guardians in writing, the results of screenings. By identifying any developmental delays early on, child care providers can work together to track a child’s progress and ensure any additional services are provided if necessary.

The School Readiness program requires that all children receiving School Readiness funds be screened for their growth and development. Because your child’s first five years of life are crucial for their development, we want to help provide the best start for your child. All developmental screenings are completed online via the ASQ Online module of the Family Portal.

Parents and caregivers with concerns are given the opportunity to have their child receive a more in-depth, FREE, comprehensive evaluation through a Healthy Beginnings referral to our community partner, HomeSafe. For more information about Healthy Beginnings Referrals and/or other local community resources relating to Special Needs, visit Early Intervention and Inclusion Department.
